Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 Update Coming Soon for PlayStation 3

KONAMI today announced that the latest free update for the PlayStation 3 version of Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 will be available on December 21, 2010.

Based on user feedback, new updates include a series of gameplay improvements:
Defender AI has been adjusted to allow for more consistent pressing
The difficulty level and success rate for performing Rainbow Flicks has been adjusted to improve gameplay
Throw-ins can now be passed back immediately
Cursor switching has been improved including situations when the ball is crossed
Calculating transfer fees in the Master League has been reworked
Names above CPU players can now be switched off as they mimic player settings
Shooting has been tweaked to produce more realistic reactions and results depending on real-time situations
Chants within the game have been refined or changed
Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 delivers an experience that adheres to the core values of the franchise: skill, realism and freedom to play. With the 2011 release, the freedom to play element has been extended via new AI routines designed to place every move and decision in the player's hands. DC Universe Online Beta for PlayStation Plus

The wait for DC Universe Online has been a lengthy one, but it's going to be a bit easier if you're a PlayStation Plus subscriber. According to the PlayStation Blog, all PlayStation Plus subscribers will be getting DC Universe Online beta access "soon." No official date was given for access to the Sony Online Entertainment MMO. PlayStation Plus is a subscription-based service on the PlayStation Network that gives subscribers free games, themes and avatars as well as exclusive offers such as this one.

If you're a DC Universe Online fan and were looking for IGN's update to its ongoing DCUO feature where we're making a character with you, you'll have to keep waiting. The PlayStation 3 beta is currently down and we couldn't mess with it today.

Final Fantasy XIII Takes Platinum Prize at Annual PlayStation Awards

Final Fantasy, Monster Hunter, Yakuza, Metal Gear and Kingdom Hearts got the expected props at this year's PlayStation Awards. Held today in Tokyo, the annual event highlights top selling games in the Japanese market for the year prior. Sony made things a bit more interesting this year by adding a fan voted category.

Final Fantasy XIII took this year's only Platinum Prize, given to games that sold one million or more units. In addition to a trophy, the game's development staff took a cash prize of 1 million yen.

Gold Prizes, given to games that sold 500,000 or more, went to Phantasy Star Portable 2 (Sega, PSP), Monster Hunter Freedom Unite PSP the Best (Capcom, PSP), Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep (Square Enix, PSP), God Eater (Namco Bandai, PSP), Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker (Konami, PSP), Monster Hunter Diary (Capcom, PSP), Yakuza 4 (Sega, PS3) and Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage (Tecmo Koei, PS3). For this award, the cash prize was 500,000 yen.

Sales are highly publicized in Japan thanks to Media Create and Enterbrain (for the latest sales chart, which has Gran Turismo 5 at top, see this story), so we already had a pretty good idea of which games would take home the Gold and Platinum prizes. For the newly added Users Choice Award, however, Sony allowed fans to vote on their top games. Sure enough, the list included some fan favorites that didn't necessarily cause a sensation at retail.

The winning user-selected titles, in no particular order, were: Monster Hunter Portable Freedom Unite (Capcom, PSP), Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker (Konami, PSP), Hatsune Miku Project Diva 2nd (Sega, PSP), Legend of Heroes: Zero no Kiseki (Falcom, PSP), Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (Square Enix, PS3), Final Fantasy XIII (Square Enix, PS3), Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition (Capcom, PS3), Demon's Souls PS3 the Best (Sony, PS3), Yakuza 4 (Sega, PS3) and God of War III (Sony, PS3).
